About MacKenzie Caputo

After thirteen years as an elite level, competitive figure skater, I love breaking down problems and rebuilding them as solutions. Whether analyzing frame-by-frame the errors in my skating jumps or examining the trends between gun ownership and suicide rates in my applied quantitative analysis course, I am passionate about problem solving. This interest led me to a Nepalese NGO that empowers disadvantaged girls through education. There, I saw a problem: girls in rural schools lacked access to English-learning tools essential to their future financial independence. Consulting with students and teachers, I developed an online program to empower the girls with the skills that they needed. Today, this program is used by over 2300 girls. I found the process of examining a meaningful problem, and then developing and implementing a solution to that problem, to be deeply satisfying. On Princeton’s campus, I channel my passion for problem solving into SHARE (Sexual Harassment and Assault Advising Resources and Education). As the Co-Chair of the SHARE Council, I collaborate with leaders of Princeton social life to end sexual assault on Princeton’s campus. I am driven, detail-oriented, and always curious to learn, whether that’s in the classroom, in the kitchen, or on the ice.
