About MacKenzie McGrath

Mackenzie is a dynamic healthcare leader who blends her passion for health equity, patient advocacy, and innovation to support the health and wellbeing of others. As Vice President of Programs at First Descents (FD), the global leader in adventure-based healing, Mackenzie oversees FD’s life changing programs and healthcare partnerships to empower young adults impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions. Under her leadership, FD has built strategic healthcare partnerships with over 500 medical institutions and patient advocacy organizations nationwide, working collaboratively to drive innovative patient-centered care closer to the point of diagnosis. She believes that addressing both physical and mental health drives long-term health outcomes. Mackenzie’s extensive background spans global health, humanitarian aid and development, diplomacy, political dialogue, and management consulting. Before her role at FD, Mackenzie worked as a consultant and U.S. Foreign Service Officer focused in the areas of health, economy, and education in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Mackenzie holds a Master’s in International Studies from the University of Denver and a Master’s Certificate in Global Mental Health from Harvard University. She also earned a B.A. in Public Communications and Public Relations. Mackenzie also sits on the Board of Directors for The American Alpine Club and loves to climb rock and ice in her spare time.
