About MacKenzie Souchon

I am a senior studying Biochemistry at Purdue's School of Chemistry, with a minor in psychology, and I will graduate on May 17 of 2025. I have completed two semesters of general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry, and inorganic chemistry with the associated labs, as well as analytical chemistry. I am looking to gather more laboratory opportunities. I am a current member of the Women in Science Program's Undergraduate Leadership Team, and I lead a team of thirty members as well as oversee a cohort of about two hundred members with the leadership team in planning monthly events as well as various social outings throughout the semester. I also work as a phlebotomist and lab technician assistant at Alverno Labs through the Franciscan Mooresville Hospital. I have learned how to draw blood effectively and safely from patients in our outpatient lab and inpatient rooms. I learned how to maintain cleanliness standards in a medical facility, how to communicate effectively with staff regarding patient care, and how to explain to patients the need and relevancy of tests performed. I am continuing to learn how to process the samples collected and how to effectively and safely send samples out, store them, and ensure the correct samples were collected. I am also part of Dr. Shiliang Tian's research lab at Purdue University. I work with my mentor, Andrew Poore, in performing cell growths and collecting, concentrating, and purifying proteins.
