About Madhavan Maddy Narayanan

Currently, I am working as an assistant professor teaching biochemistry courses at Benedictine University, Lisle IL Benedictine University is predominantly a 4 year undergraduate college with some graduate programs. Here I am working hard in balancing by responsibilities as a teacher-scholar. With regards to teaching, I am interested in learning about and implementing innovative teaching pedagogies to create an active learning environment. I am also interested in learning and sharing strategies with students, which will empower them to become self-regulated learners. Given below are some of the research areas I have worked on: • Proton-pumping mechanism of NADH:quinone oxidoreductase (Complex 1) • Studied photoinduced electron transfer as a possible fluorescence quenching mechanism in fluorescent nucleobase analogs (FBAs). • Performed voltammetric measurements on FBAs to determine their ground state and excited state redox potentials. • Calculated theoretical one electron redox potentials of FBAs in ground state using Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. • Studied mechanistic details of photoinduced DNA damage and repair catalyzed by DNA photolyase. I am continuing on work on some of the above topics and some other new areas in collaboration with my colleagues at within and outside of Benedictine University.
