About Madison D.

I am a PhD student supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, working to unpack how gene regulation drives differentiation and disease. My current research interest focuses on how 3D genome architecture shapes regulatory programs. I apply computational approaches to both bulk and single-cell data, develop reproducible pipelines, and investigate regulatory architecture from functional and evolutionary perspectives. Beyond my research, I’m deeply invested in science policy reform — not in lobbying politicians, but in rethinking the systems that govern how science itself is done. I believe the academic research system is overdue for structural change: in how we fund, publish, evaluate, and support scientists. I’m especially interested in making science more equitable, transparent, and sustainable — and in ensuring that early-career researchers have a seat at the table in shaping that future.
