About Madison Deplonty

I graduated from Michigan State University in May 2018 from the College of Natural Resources. I have a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife with a concentration in wildlife biology. With this degree I hope to focus on wildlife health and management as well as conservation. Within this field I have worked with the Michigan DNR wildlife division to aid in disease research. I also aided in research with the University of Minnesota with their piping plover recovery program. I also have retail experience in some positions. I was an on campus store manager at MSU; here I learned task delegating and money handling skills. Customer service experience, including dealing with unruly patrons, was a crucial skill I obtained in this position. I was also a sales associate at a bar in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Customer service skills were essential for this position because many of the guests I interacted with were regulars and their continued patronage was important. During my time at Michigan State, my courses introduced me to many wildlife management tools. Here, I learned the use of a compass, GPS device, trail cameras, many ecosystem analysis tools, and animal trapping and handling. I also have experience with binoculars, spotting scopes, dichotomous keys, and all terrain vehicles. My courses also introduced me to the world of wildlife management with make-shift ecosystem/wildlife management assignments. I took classes in ecological statistics, physics, mammalogy and herpetology, general chemistry, biology, and human dimensions of fisheries and wildlife. My personal interests include hiking, rock climbing, arts and crafts, roller blading, water recreation, and traveling the country. I am very close with my friends and family and have a deep love for household animals. I have lived in Michigan my whole life and I love it here, however it has always been a dream of mine to move around the country.
