Background
About Madison Ewing
Having attended school at UTD from 2018 - 2023, I've grown to love the DFW Metroplex. After spending age four through eighteen calling Alaska home, Texas was definitely a big change - though I was, ironically, born just outside of Houston. I was recently hired for my dream physics teaching position at Einstein School, right here in Plano, beginning in June. My postsecondary education began when, as a National Merit scholar fresh off the plane from Alaska (flabbergasted by the heat), I was excited to embark on my academic journey at the University of Texas at Dallas. I was part of the Clark Summer Research Program cohort of 2018, and performed research in Dr. Shi's condensed matter physics lab. I caught the journalism bug in 2018, and ended up stopping with the UTeach program to work my way up to editor-in-chief of the student newspaper. Nevertheless, I still held a deep love of teaching, and even took a graduate course on teaching physics to elementary students. I clung to physics for four and a half years - adding and completing a creative writing minor halfway through, as well as switching to a B.A. in physics instead of a B.S- but, ultimately, I ended up shifting gears last minute in order to gain more experience, and prepare myself for the shoes I really wanted to fill: being an educator. Continuing with my B.A. for one last semester would have meant another sixteen weeks of rigorous math. Fun, sure. But I already felt mathematically and experientially equipped enough for teaching, thanks to my strong background in STEM and more than a year of tutoring under my belt. Because of my creative writing minor, I discovered I was just a few classes away from fulfilling the requirements for a B.S. in IS. So, I registered for a helpful hodge-podge of culture, philosophy, astronomy, and teaching courses, and successfully graduated in May 2023. I'm experienced in everything from student journalism, political activism, folk dancing, Christian apologetics, frozen yogurt, physics, poetry, customer service, intermediate piano and music theory, and tutoring elementary, middle, and high school students. In my years as a homeschooler - and now having successfully managed a full schedule in college - I've taught myself to be organized and dedicated, no matter what my current pursuit. I'm accustomed to being adaptable, working and thinking under high pressure or tight deadlines, and am always up for a challenge. Soli Deo Gloria, Maddie
