Background
About Madison Patrick
I am a first-generation Summa Cum Laude graduate from Santa Clara University, where I studied the fields of Sociology and Public Health with a concentration in community and social justice studies and a degree emphasis in applied ethics. I am a member of the International Sociology Honors Society, Alpha Kappa Delta as well as the Jesuit Honors Society, Alpha Sigma Nu, which is reserved for students in the top five percent of their graduating class who have dedicated themselves to scholarship, loyalty, and service to their community. Additionally, I served as an executive lead for my university's "Partners in Health Engage" chapter, where my team and I coordinated advocacy, fundraising, and community-building efforts to address urgent health inequities. My academic and professional pursuits are centered around Human services, with a focus on gender-based violence survivor support and ethics in maternal healthcare. Additionally, both my current research as a Hackworth Fellow for the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics and applied research for my Sociology Capstone uniquely focus on matters of autonomy and informed consent in the realm of reproductive health. As I continue my professional journey, I am seeking to develop innovative strategies aimed at fortifying the collaboration between medical professionals and social services to expand protections for vulnerable populations. I have also committed to this pathway by pursuing various direct service volunteer roles and trainings, as well as undertaking an intensive Emergency Medical Technician program, allowing me to obtain the skills of a pre-hospital life support provider. I recently held a federal internship position with the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, aligning my passion for advocacy with a concrete role in anti-trafficking education and experience with governmental logistics such as grant provisions for various non-profit organizations. Through my specific academic training, I have gained experience developing policy memorandums and literature reviews, among other formats of advanced writing. I am also thoroughly equipped with the skills to employ various research methods, and have an associated research ethics training certificate as well as experience analyzing findings using statistical software. I look forward to utilizing this knowledge in the workforce and am incredibly appreciative of the Sociology and Public Health programs at Santa Clara University for cultivating these skills.
