Background
About Maesie Speer
I'm a nonprofit professional with two decades of experience across through program development, operations, community engagement, grantmaking, and fundraising. I combine the curiosity of a researcher and the strategy of a systems thinker with foregrounded equity analysis and a relationship-focused approach. My professional path led from grassroots public health advocacy (The Oregon School Health Alliance) to curriculum design (Cairn Guidance) to developing arts and culture grantmaking initiatives (The Oregon Community Foundation, Multnomah County Cultural Coalition) to managing a rural arts center and supporting hundreds of artists through residencies, funding and community-building (Caldera Arts). I draw upon my artistic practice which bridges performance, facilitation and dramaturgy, and I gain inspiration from legacies of class struggle and labor organizing. I am board president of CultureSeed, an organization mentoring rural youth in the Columbia Gorge, and also volunteer with the City of Portland’s Urban Forestry Program.
