About Maggie Cleary

Maggie Cleary serves as the Deputy Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security for Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin. Prior to accepting this appointment, she was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia, in Roanoke. In that capacity, she handled predominantly gun and drug offenses throughout the Western and Southwestern portion of the Commonwealth, and appeared in federal court in Abingdon, Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, and Roanoke. She came to the Western District from the Culpeper County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, where she was a state prosecutor for four years, prosecuting everything from speeding offenses to Class 1 felonies. Maggie received specialized training in conducting interviews of child victims, appeared in state court in other counties as a special prosecutor, and was sworn in as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in Rappahannock County. In her spare time, Maggie reads approximately fifty books a year and enjoys long distance running. She serves on the Culpeper County Republican Committee, and has taught civics to aspiring US citizens. A seventh generation Virginian, with family haling from Staunton, she is a proud member of Daughters of the American Revolution. In 2021, Maggie was named one of Maverick PAC's "Future 40."
