About Maggie Cusack
I am the Inaugural President of Munster Technological University (MTU) which came into being on 1st January 2021 when Cork Institute of Technology and Institute of Technology Tralee came together to form MTU. MTU has 6 campuses across Kerry and Cork. Two campuses are in Tralee: Kerry North and Kerry South campus and 4 are in Cork: Bishopstown campus, Cork School of Music, Crawford College of Art & Design and the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI). With learners and staff, MTU has established 5 multi-campus faculties: Business, Creative & Performing Arts & Media, Engineering, Health & Social Sciences and Science & Informatics. From 2017-2021 I was Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Stirling. The Faculty comprises the Institute of Aquaculture, Divisions of Biological & Environmental Science, Computing Science & Mathematics and Psychology. I was academic lead on the project boards for Aquaculture Innovation and Scotland's International Environment Centre as part of the City Region Deal for Stirling and Clackmannanshire. I held several roles outside of the University of Stirling including: • Vice-President (Physical Sciences) of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (2017-2020) • Chair of the Learned Societies Group (2020 – 2021) • Interdisciplinary Advisor for REF sub-panel B7in criteria-setting and assessment phases • Member of Scottish Government STEM Strategy Advisory Group (2018-2021) • Member of the Royal Society Partnership Grants Panel for school STEM projects (2019-2021) • Member of the Carnegie Trust PhD review panel (2018-2021) • Member of the EPSRC Peer Review College (2016-2019) • Member of NERC Peer Review Council (2017-2020) • External examiner of Geosciences MSci programme at the University of Durham (2016-2020) • Institutional Champion for the Aurora Programme As Professor of Biomineralisation, I work in an exciting multidisciplinary area exploring biominerals in two broad themes: Biominerals in the environment researching climate proxies, ocean acidification and clumped isotopes.
