About Maha Awn

Maha Awn is a graduate of Faculty of Art (History and political science ), University of Taiz. Maha, a Yemeni youth activists, is the Executive Director of KAYAN Foundation for Peace and Development. She focuses on issues of women and youth and sustainable development. Her community work started in 2011 with a lot of youth initiatives. Maha got a scholarship access program at AMIDEAST from the American embassy. On 2015, her interest in the humanitarian field began, as a desire fueled by the armed conflict in Yemen.She contributed to monitor many human rights violations, as it documented visual stories on the front lines of the war and conveyed the voices of victims to the local and international community. She started her work extensively in the humanitarian field, then in peace building and conflict resolution projects. Maha worked in many local and international organizations.On 2019, Maha has been selected as a Yemeni influential voices by Mwatana institute on Adyan foundation/Lebanon. Maha won the prize for innovative projects related to peace field from the Dutch radio RNW.Maha considered the founder of youth platform" humans of Taiz" which focuses on youth and women issues. She is a member of Youth for building peace platform which cares about peace building. Activists Maha is also a member of youth team that support local mediation. She has been selected within 74 young leader from 13 Arab states joined our regional youth network the gender innovation Agora and she will work closely with UNWOMEN to promote gender equality and women's empowerment in the region She participate on many local and international conferences and training courses.
