About Maher Chiri

Maher obtained his Bachelor of Science in 2012 at Curtin University and then joined Rio Tinto starting in the Health & Safety graduate program. During his 10 years at Rio Tinto, he was an Operational Supervisor for Resource Development, he lived in Tom Price for nearly 5 years. Whilst in Tom Price he led a number of key fatigue management projects ranging from: investigating the links of driving steering characteristics while driving tired and measuring sleep quantity and quality through purpose built sleep watches. Maher’s passion also extends to business improvements, recently achieving his Six Sigma black belt accreditation: leading a Six Sigma project on ordering parts for scheduled maintenance, leading a HSE Incident reduction improvement project and facilitating Kaizen events on manual handling. Maher believes Health and Safety professionals can support organizations to excel in safety performance by understanding control effectiveness, developing models of self-assurance, and pioneering and integrating modern technology including behavioral science in hazard identification.
