About Mahmudur Rahman

I am passionate to learn and improve myself as a continuous process and utilize my knowledge, expertise, and skills either by disseminating them as academia or practically applying them in the industry towards the betterment of the society. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Bangladesh. I have completed my MS and Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Cruz, USA.As a part of the research team at UC Santa Cruz, I have developed a programmable electro-optical platform that can deliver single biomolecules (e.g. Ribosome, DNA, Protein, Viruses, etc.) into an analysis region on a demand basis with reconfigurable settings. Additionally, I have developed an anti-Brownian electrokinetic trapping methodology that facilitates in-plane (2D) single-particle trapping for prolonged analysis. Furthermore, I have developed a novel methodology that can dramatically improve the bioparticle detection rate to facilitate detection at clinically relevant concentration samples. 9 Journal and conference proceedings including one article in Nature Communications and one article in Optica Memoranda which was published in their breakthrough result track.Expertise and experience: Scanning electron microscopy and focused ion beam drilling Design and assembly of laser-based spectroscopy and sensing systems Design and implementation of electronic circuitry and systems with optofluidic devices Failure analysis and troubleshooting of complex optoelectronic system Data acquisition, evaluation, processing, and analysis of electrical and optical systems Optical waveguide design and simulation (FIMMWAVE) Work experience in a cleanroom environment Project accomplishment and collaborating with peers, engineers, and scientists from varied backgrounds 5+ Years of experience in research and development engineering 5+ Years of experience in teaching engineering students 5+ years of experience in testing and consultancy service with the local industries of Bangladesh Outstanding academic background and excellent track record of research including interdisciplinary research Excellent communication, leadership, and management skill (served as a team leader in different games including cricket, soccer and served as a committee member of the Teachers’ Association, DUET)
