About Mahnoor Kamali

Whilst being born right here in Australia, I have spent majority of my life living in a small town in New Zealand. As a Pakistani that had the privilege of studying and growing up in a first world country and having easy access to medical help, I realised that I have a duty to give back to the world, especially my community. I want to give back to those communities that are lacking the easy access to medical care that we all take for granted. Wanting to make a difference in someones life, even if it’s just one persons life, is a dream of mine and I realised at a very young age that being a health practitioner is the best way to achieve that. What also draws me to this career is that being a health practitioner is hugely centred around communication. Doing debating, speech competitions, and drama have all helped me to develop vital communication skills and have in fact allowed me to work effectively in a team. I have gained valuable leadership and public speaking skills when given leadership roles all throughout my life. These activities, especially debating, have also allowed me to develop many teaching skills as being a debating coach for 3 years ensured that I was able to communicate my ides effectively to individuals of all ages. This aided my job as a mathematics tutor in Number Works'n'Words and it made me love teaching and helping students. I believe this is a very important skill in the medical profession as there are students constantly around the hospital on placements. Currently studying in Bachelor of Medical Science, I look forward to expanding my love and knowledge for science and learning valuable skills that will enable me to be the version of myself as a health practitioner.
