About Maisha Ikra

Environmental Science BS graduate from the Binghamton University, passionate about urban ecology from a scientific research and community engagement interdisciplinary lens. Currently working as an Educator for NYC Department of Education and volunteering as a National Convention Logistics Manager for the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE). Possesses a variety of experiences in research with strengths in project design/management, communication, and teamwork leadership. Eager to explore a career towards an interdisciplinary approach to Urban Ecological research- Ever since a young age, I have been in awe with the natural world around us. Growing up in the concrete jungle of NYC however, posed many challenges in terms of engaging with my exploration of the environment. The contrast between my urban upbringing and rural university experiences has pushed my fascination towards the intersectionality and accessibility of sustainability and environmental services in the contemporary era. I have a passion for bringing nature to the city through creative, inclusive solutions, hoping to inspire individuals to partake in a greener tomorrow! Aside from Environmental Science, I enjoy creative writing, hiking, and visual arts such as calligraphy, graphic design, photography, and painting!
