About Maithe Gonzalez
Maithe Gonzalez, currently works for the Executive Office for Immigration Review. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Florida International University in December 2002 and her J.D. from St. Thomas University School of Law in May 2005. While attending law school, Ms. Gonzalez served as a legal intern in the Immigration Clinic, where she was awarded the “Book Award” for her outstanding performance. Ms. Gonzalez also was interned with the Broward State Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted criminal misdemeanor and traffic cases. From 2005 to 2008, Ms. Gonzalez was associated with several top immigration law firms, where she served as counsel in trials before the Executive Office for Immigration Review, Office of the Immigration Judge and in administrative proceedings before USCIS. In 2008, Ms. Gonzalez went on to found the Law Firm of Maithe Gonzalez, P.A, where she provided immigration related representation to clients before EOIR and USCIS, until 2023. She has also handled appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), the United States Court of Appeals in and for the 11th Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS). She has co-authored briefs and presented oral arguments before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals; several such cases have been published. Ms. Gonzalez is admitted to practice in the State of Florida and before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Ms. Gonzalez served as a member of the Florida Bar’s 11th Circuit Grievance Committee and the Florida Bar's 11th Circuit UPL Committee. She also served as an ambassador to the American Immigration Council. Throughout her career, she was a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and participated as a member in several committees within AILA’s South Florida Chapter, including the Congressional Committee, the UPL Committee, the ERO Committee, and the HSI Committee. From 2016 to 2019, Ms. Gonzalez served as an appointed member to the City of Miami’s Community Advisory Board. During her time on the Board, Ms. Gonzalez served as the Chairperson of the Board’s subcommittee on training, policy and procedure. In 2019, she was appointed to serve on the City of Miami’s Civilian Investigative Panel (CIP). In March 2021, she was elected to the position of Chairperson of the CIP, and served in that capacity until her resignation from the Panel, in September 2023.
