About Makayla Andre

I am a MBS/MPH Biomedical Sciences/Public Health graduate from Tufts University: School of Medicine. I am looking for positions in healthcare and come equipped with benchwork (wet-lab) experience. I have a passion for Healthcare and Chemistry. My research background is in Physical Chemistry and using mathematical applications and statistical analysis to interpret data and results in a research setting. Using leadership, organization skills, and confidence, I am on the path to earning a terminal doctoral degree while currently working towards my master’s degree. During my undergraduate at UMass Dartmouth, I worked with Dr. Wei-Shun Chang, PhD; studying the properties and characteristics of gold nanorods using the UV-Vis and Scanning Electron Microscope instruments to detect morphology changes. I also worked with graduate students at the Instituto de Quimica, São Paulo, Brazil, doing method development to view the interactions of metabolites and spoilage in fruit juices. During my time at UMass Dartmouth, I managed to earn the following awards: Dean's list, the Chancellor’s List, received a special departmental citation for academic excellence, most recently received an award for the ACS Division of Physical Chemistry Undergraduate Award, and was awarded the NSF Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.
