About Malavan Rajaratnam

I am eager to contribute an excellent and detail oriented skill set coordinating and managing healthcare information. This would include responsibilities for healthcare data capture, quantitative analysis of data trends, privacy analysis, benchmarking, business case preparation, forecasting, and regression analysis. Complementing my HI training, I have a background in the delivery of primary medical care to patients in public health, family medicine, OB / GYN, and oncology. My objective is to leverage my medical and statistical knowledge to transform data into information for use in decision- and policy-making making. Some of the projects I’ve worked during my graduate program include: Designing an interactive dashboard for visualizing data from Health Canada’s Vigilance Adverse Reaction Online Database using D3 JavaScript library and HTML / CSS. Building a predictive model to identify mothers at high risk of having lower birth weight, utilizing available maternal and birth data. Analyzing business processes to create BPMN diagrams reflecting the Nova Scotia Health Authority’s privacy and confidentiality standards for current and newly proposed systems. Conducting literature reviews and identifying pathways to focus data analysis, deploying the WEKA data mining tool and using Python to recognize data patterns. Innovating a new approach for mapping medical terms to different medical terminologies such as SNOMED-CT and automating the entire process using Python scripts. I’ve acquired this knowledge base in health sciences and information technologies to support and improve the state of individual and community health, and identify, design and manage informatics solutions relevant to healthcare and health systems.
