About Malay Doshi

Being the son of two architects, Malay has grown up to admire good design. The need for a well scripted overall experience of space has become quintessential to his notion of existence. Design to him is not just one thing or another, but a swirl of constantly changing combinations of the many. A lot of these changes come from his need to see and read new things, which then circle back to contrasting ideas for different projects. So a bamboo shelter in Bali, a stone temple in Egypt and a glass greenhouse in London, have all had as much of a say in his idea of design as have reading Hawking, Tolkien and Koolhas. His likings and understandings of such various different mediums have led him to a very inclusive approach to design. His journey through academics at CEPT University have made him very conscious about the treatment of materials and how light falling on them changes perceptions of people. At the same time, brief spells in Zurich and Madrid made him understand how the use of those materials could dictate form and be the means to enhance it. Currently bouncing between being a visiting faculty at CEPT and being a partner at Saransh, Malay feels the best place to be in is when one is balancing both: the conceptualisation and the manifestation.
