About Malcolm Abela Sciberras

I started out as a student of Information Technology, which shaped my way of thinking to this day. I learnt that I must first consider the exact steps involved in whatever job was at hand, and then determine the right route to my desired result. In the end, however, I found the sector of IT itself to be too sterile and uninspiring.Instead, I was always drawn to interior design and, growing up, was addicted to watching home renovation programmes on TV. And so, after graduating I completed an interior design course, soaking up as much knowledge as I could.Towards the end of it, I started working as a kitchen designer within a local Maltese showroom – a spell that helped my career develop into what it is today. In fact, I still feel that designing a kitchen – the heart of every home – is my strongest quality.In 2017, fellow interior designer Paul Cuschieri and I landed one of our greatest joint projects to date: the design of an apartment in the Balluta Buildings – one of Malta's most iconic structures. The two of us worked brilliantly together and eventually decided to set up our own interior design company, Rebirth, in 2019.With studios in Malta and London, Rebirth has built up a reputation for beautifully detailed interiors that are characterful and considered. I like interiors to burst with personality, while also respecting any history or heritage that also deserves to shine through.Recent projects include and – both of which showcase my penchant for creating warm, welcoming and timeless interiors, and filling them with (what I believe to be) a mix of soulful items.My secret to a successful project is fairly simple: scrapping the first idea that comes to mind! It’s often the safest option and anyone can think of it, so I prefer to shelve it in favour of an even better design or solution to come.After a tough couple of years following the pandemic’s disruption of supply chains and lack of materials and stock options, we at Rebirth are back in the game and going at full throttle!If you too are artistically open-minded and would like your space to embody both an experience and good design, we would absolutely love to work with you.
