About Malcolm Archbold

Aerial photographer and video production. CAA certified drone instructor. World Bank consultant for UAV/drone training. Consultant in the fields of Surveying, Digital Mapping (photogrammetry), Geodesy, 3D laser scanning and UAS (Unmanned Aerial Surveying) systems for land surveying and mapping. My specialist fields are UAV/drone teaching, ICAO aerodrome obstacle surveys and South Pacific geodetic datums and map projections. I teach surveying part time at Unitec, Auckland. My professional status is a Fellow, RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors), NZ Licensed Cadastral Surveyor, Registered Professional Surveyor with over 30 years experience working in New Zealand, Australia, Antarctica, the Middle East and South Pacific. I was a Principal and Technical Director, Survey at Beca, NZ, a multidiscipline professional services consultancy, employing over personnel. I am currently the New Zealand representative for MapAction, a UK based NGO with a capacity to deploy a fully trained and equipped humanitarian mapping and information management team anywhere in the world. I live in Auckland, New Zealand and previously in Rabaul, Papua New Guinea (3yrs) and Noumea, New Caledonia (2yrs) and was the GPS team leader of the joint NZ/US team in Antarctica, then mapping the Iraq/Kuwait border after the first Gulf War as part of a United Nations survey team. During mid I was a project director for the World Bank Cyclone Emergency Recovery and Management project which included surveyor and GIS staff training plus establishing Tonga's first geocentric datum and TM based map projection. I was a Board member of the Remuera Intermediate School Board of Trustees for 10 years from 1998 to 2008.
