About Malcolm Brown

Over 30 years’ experience as an IT professional in the energy industry, primarily working across the exploration and production sub-sector, working in several senior management positions within various organizations, including owner/operator of several consultancies, including Clearscape, which specialised in subsurface geoscience application deployment on multi-platform technologies. Notably, became Head of Information Services at Sterling Resources in 2005, having initially joined as an IT consultant. Designed the company’s global IT infrastructure incorporating a Wide Area Network, site-to-site Virtual Private Networks, remote desktop services, remote 3D modeling, and adopting cloud services. Responsibilities included information and data management, merger and acquisition data governance, and security operations and compliance. Upon joining Ithaca Energy, a leading independent oil and gas company, as Head of IT in 2017 the role was to modernize the company’s IT landscape, and provide the platform for rapid company growth. This included the implementation a Hyper Converged Infrastructure, utilising VDI technology, and the move to a cloud native file data storage platform. Led the transition and integration of the IT assets when the business acquired Chevron North Sea in 2019, which was simplified by the infrastructure that had been put in place. With a forward-thinking approach to enhancements provides the basis to stay up-to-date with the latest developments while ensuring that any adoption is well researched and planned appropriately, so that any deployment is as seamless as possible. This ability is used to evaluate how new ideas and technologies can be incorporated into business models to improve organizational workflows. The leading factor in all decision making is a strong belief that security needs to underpin all activities related to an organisation’s assets and intellectual property, whether it be physical or cyber, is essential. Continuously evaluating the current threat landscape and working to introduce new security models and strategies to counter threats posed by today’s geo-political and increasingly interconnected environments.
