Passive fire protection features in buildings have been neglected for many years. Around the time of the GFC scheduled and responsive maintenance contractors were let go and have not been re-engaged since. Having had passive fire product supply chain exposure and been responsible for technical & specification management, I have been involved with numerous industry association for a number of years. These include: FPANZ, BOINZ, ABCIQP, FMANZ, SFPE - participating in special interest groups (SIG) and working groups engaged in various aspects of passive fire protection. Ongoing building compliance, specifically around passive fire protection features, has become a focal point of my interests in recent times. I am a member of the management committee of the Association Of Building Compliance (ABCIQP). Building owners, property/facility managers etc do not appear to appreciate the potential negative impact non-compliant fire/smoke separations could have on the value of the asset or the risk associated with life safety aspects of these often-overlooked passive systems. The interfacing of fire protection systems and features with each other causes concern because there is little, if any, end-to-end testing being performed. The passive fire industry is in the process of metamorphosis - watch this space! I have been involved in sales all my life, in various capacities and industries. From retail sales to field sales, I have sold to the public and B2B. I have sold to specifiers, consultants and engineers. My experience includes sales management, new business development management and marketing management roles. I have experience in managing sales people and business development officers in a national capacity. I have 12 years self employed experience and have sound understanding and appreciation of business plans, forecast, budgets and financial statement construction and interpretation. Products and services with a technical bent have always been a feature of my career (as opposed to FMCG and ITC etc).
