About Malcolm Leaman

Hello! My name is Malcolm, and I am a recent graduate of the Master of Management of Applied Science in Global Health Systems program at Western University currently working at the Vitalité Health Network. What am I doing now? Right now, I am the public health manager for the biggest health zone in New Brunswick. In this role, I am privileged to be a leader on a multidisciplinary team of over 70 individuals including nurses, dieticians, and various public health professionals. Through collaborative efforts, we deliver four primary services: communicable disease, immunization, health promotion, and health families. In addition, I have brought forward and spearheaded two major projects within public health including the implementation of feedback mechanisms to ensure the delivery of high-quality services to our clients and identify areas of improvement in collaboration with our clients. Moreover, I conceptualized and brought into action a transdisciplinary/departmental collaboration between two health networks and four departments (Public Health, Mental Health, Primary Care, and Addiction Services) to deliver a mobile health unit to provide a multitude of health services in form of outreach to the growing population of the precariously housed. I am excited to be working across departments to break down the silos that have been built over several years to provide a holistic delivery of health services to our population. What are my future plans? In my career, I aim to lead, educate, and advocate for healthcare equity among populations with higher risks for negative health outcomes, improve health literacy, and ensure that the concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion are at the forefront of decision making. Through a systems-level approach, I hope to create upstream programs and policies that have positive and sustainable outcomes both nationally and internationally. I am a highly motivated individual with a desire to learn and make strides towards making positive sustainable change within our society.
