About Malcolm Moody

Nothing is ever guaranteed. I always heard this message growing up but didn’t internalize it until I ended my second year of college at Salisbury University. Admittedly what fueled this realization were my struggles as a student studying at the Purdue School of Business and attempting to pursue a major that wasn’t aligned with my true interests. After reflecting on my past failures, I was able to conclude that I didn’t belong in the Business school and that my interests were more political in nature. This is when I decided to switch my major and therefore form a new perspective of what career to pursue. By choosing a degree in Political Science, I was able to further my understanding of social, political, and economic systems that influence our daily lives. I was also fortunate to get the opportunity to be involved in a local political campaign, which helped me discover my passion for finding ways to improve the lives of people around me. The experience also enabled me to better understand the needs of people who have lived their entire lives in a different economic situation then I have experienced. After graduating I’ve been looking at opportunities to positively influence communities around me. This pursuit has led me to my current role with AmeriCorps, which has afforded me the opportunity to interact with communities within Washington, DC that are dealing with issues I was largely unaware of. While this experience has helped me narrow my interests to working with a nonprofit or the government (local, state, or national), I also recognize that there are always opportunities to aid communities in need and this is what has motivated me to focus my career on improving people’s lives.
