About Malcolm Morton

I have a powerful curiosity about history and culture, and the idea of "human nature." I have a driving wish to know as much as possible about human civilization's brief tenure on this planet, which leads me to relish any opportunity to read a book or see a work of visual art, from absolutely any culture or period. I believe that the best way to understand the complex and uncertain present is to have a healthy respect for, and appreciation of, the long and multifaceted past, and it is my overall goal in life to make myself a real go-to guy in this regard. All my years in grad school were dedicated to this end. With any potential problem of research or presentation, I try to be the one to bring a broader context to bear upon it - to caution any impulses towards present-ism or parochialism. I tend to see an academic teaching career as the best fit for this temperament, but any job involving research, programming, curating, or cataloging would lend itself well to my skill set.
