Geology and Mining * For approximately a decade, I worked as a Production Geologist primarily in opencast and underground coal mining.* This experience provided me with a strong foundation in core competencies such as underground geological mapping, drill core management, geological assessment, and risk management.* My roles at Anglo American & Seriti Resources, from 2014 to 2022, involved managing geological tasks, exploration drilling contractors, and budgets, and contributing to resource and reserve estimations.* My work also included the digitization of mine reserves and the management of a new dyke collapsing technology using organic chemical injection as a pioneer project.* These experiences highlight my practical skills and expertise in the technical aspects of geology and mining. Geohydrology * I have continuously sought to merge my geology skills with hydrology.* My MSc in Hydrogeological Engineering and my internship at Seriti Resources (2019) focused on hydrogeology.* During my internship, I conducted a comprehensive hydrological study and recommended modifications to a laboratory analysis for chemistry accuracy.* This work led to a proposed modification of the Acid Base Accounting Test through my MSc thesis, this research concluded that a more accurate assessment of acid generation at New Vaal Colliery was necessary to better predict Acid Mine Drainage. Customer Service * While this role differs from my core expertise, it demonstrates my adaptability and willingness to learn new skills. Current Role * Currently, I work as a Senior Inspector Underground Mining at Staatstoezicht op de Mijnen (SodM), focusing on the aftercare of former coal mines in the Netherlands.* This role utilizes my mining expertise in a new context, advising on research and safety measures for decommissioned mines.* It also reflects my interest in the energy transition and environmental protection.* My responsibilities include supervising underground excavations including the Einstein Telescope project, ensuring safety and environmental protection, and implementing the new EU Methane Regulation.
