Background
About Mandy Davis
I was raised near Milwaukee, WI, then moved to Chicago to study and graduate from the Chicago Art Institute with a BS in Fashion Marketing. I followed a successful career path, and was part of the marketing team to launch the cosmetic and bath line: Fresh. I continued to work with the Art Institute in their marketing and admissions department until I hit the wall of addiction. After enduring consequences of a job loss, and subsequent divorce, I found myself in treatment through the intervention of my family. Following two-years of sobriety I enrolled in the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies with a MA in Addictions Counseling + Co-occurring Disorders. While interning, I was noticed as seemly being "a natural" at quickly developing therapeutic relations with clients, I spent my final semester interning on the medical detox unit. There I was tasked with developing an assessment protocol, which continues to be used today. Being one of only three hired from my graduating class of 26 was an honor. After graduation, I was hired as a Float Counselor, but quickly made the jump to a full-time counselor on the women's unit. After seven months, I was sought out by the Unit Supervisor of a men's primary unit. Bucking a growing trend of catering to client's every whim, Silkworth is well-known for it's no nonsense approach to addiction treatment, and sticks to the basics: Again, I was honored to accept the position. Toward the end of my tenure in Center City, MN. I took on the extra load of enrolling and completing the Clinical Supervision Course offered through Hazelden, which I received and hold a license as a Clinical Supervisor in the state of Minnesota. After nearly four years, I decided to go out on my own: With my husband, Kenneth Davis: Another Hazelden Graduate, we formed Sweet Emotions Counseling. On July 19th, I suffered a broken femur and collar bone, and I am now out on extended leave, to care for some injuries, and do some personal growth work.
