About Mandy Gibson

I am a Marine and Freshwater Biology graduate from the University of Guelph and I am passionate about the conservation of freshwater organisms. The bulk of my experience is in freshwater mussel research and monitoring through multiple technician positions at Fisheries and Oceans Canada. I have been the crew lead for the past three field seasons, collecting data on freshwater mussels as part of Canada's plan to conserve mussel Species At Risk. I also have experience in commercial fisheries management with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry in the Lake Erie Management Unit, in invasive species management with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), and in the consulting industry with Natural Resource Solutions Inc.(NRSI). Through these positions I have developed fish sampling and identification skills as well as benthic macroinvertebrate collection experience. I also have extensive water quality sampling experience and have used and maintained a variety of aquatic field work equipment throughout my career. I am looking to gain further experience related to aquatic ecology, science, and conservation. I also would like to note that I’m in the process of obtaining my Mollusk Professional Certification through the pilot program offered by the Freshwater Mollusk Conservation Society (FMCS). If successful, I will be one of the first professionals worldwide to receive this certification.
