About Mandy Pitts

I have 19 years of experience working in education. Currently, I am employed as a GEAR UP Site Coordinator. My previous experience includes working with all elementary, middle, and secondary grade levels. In my role as a GEAR UP TN Site Coordinator, I am responsible for helping students gain early awareness of postsecondary opportunities. I also work with students individually to research and plan out what those opportunities specifically mean for them. I also work with parents to ensure they are aware of everything that is available for their student after high school, and I work with educators to ensure we are all promoting a college-going atmosphere throughout the school. In my previous role as a school counselor, I helped students find solutions to problems that were interfering with their learning processes. I worked with students individually, in groups, and in classrooms. I also collaborated with teachers, parents, administrators, and community members in order to provide the best service for students. In addition to my site coordinator and school counseling roles, I have taken on other responsibilities which have helped me build valuable skills. I was selected to be a "Lead Teacher," which provided an opportunity for me to create and lead professional development sessions. As a member of the technology committee, I have been to several conferences and trainings on emerging technologies. Also, I have many years' experience with data analysis and disaggregation. Before entering the education field, I gained valuable experience working as an Intervention Specialist for a community mental health center, a customer service/traffic admin for a large snack food manufacturer, and a server at a fast-paced Tex-Mex restaurant. When I'm not on the job, I love reading, playing with my dogs, and cheering on the Tennessee Vols.
