About Mandy van Hoek

I am working as consultant in internal medicine with superspecialisation in vascular medicine and special interest in diabetes mellitus in the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam. I am the head of education for the superspeciality of vascular medicine in the Erasmus MC. Clinical training From May 2009 till May2015, I have been in training for the internal medicine speciality. I have started my training in the IJsselland ziekenhuis. Per may 2011, my clinical training continued in the Erasmus university. From May 2013-may 2015 onwards, I completed my superspecialisation in vascular medicine, which consists of outpatient clinic care for patients with vascular disease, diabetes, lipid disorders and hypertension, as well as consultative tasks on for neurology, cardiology, vascular surgery and gynaecology colleagues. Brief summary of research My research focus is to unravel genetic, environmental and metabolic determinants of type 2 diabetes(T2D) and its complications, and to translate these findings to clinical practice. For translational research, I have experience in extensive prediction modelling. My previous efforts have resulted in publications in internationally refereed journals in the fields of diabetes, endocrinology, epidemiology and genetics. I have ongoing collaborations with national and international groups. Simultaneous to my research, I have recruited the DiaGene study, a large case-control cohort (1907 cases; 901 controls) with detailed information on T2D complications. In addition, I am the co-promoter of 4 PhD-students that work on genetics, glycomics environment and inflammation in T2D. In Oktober 2014, I was awarded the Erasmus MC fellowship for my research proposal on glycans and diabetes and it’s complications.
