I have over 20 years Knowledge and experience of Building Construction, Surveying, Building Pathology and Forensic investigations of buildings. I have worked on commercial, leisure, residential and large scale housing developments within my roles in Building Control. My largest project is the Barking Riverside development, which included the innovative ENVAC system for recycling. I am also committed to furthering my specialism in Building Control, Particularly in Fire Engineering. I am a qualified Fire Risk Assessor, and a member of the Institute of Fire Engineers. I have recently achieved my Fire Engineering Diploma.( accredited by the IFE).I have also been awarded the recognition as a Fellow Chartered Building Engineer with CABE. I am also a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. In my previous role as a Principal Housing Standards Officer, I was the Authorities Lead practitioner in Private Sector Housing dealing with all Private Sector Housing (PSH) matters. This ranges from Disrepair issues, to dealing with complex Houses in Multiple Occupation. I am fully conversant with all the relevant legislation, in particular the Housing Health Safety Rating System (HHSRS), Housing Act 2004 and Environmental Protection Act 1990. I was also responsible for managing a Team, consisting of PSH, Environmental and building surveyors. I also represented the Authority at Sub-regional level. I have been the lead officer on large Regeneration projects, such as Group area Renewal Schemes at Barking and Dagenham and Newham. I have a law degree (LLB-Hons) and a Masters in Law (LLM). I hold a Post Graduate in Building Surveying, and a Higher Cert in Environmental Health. I also have attended various enforcement and construction courses throughout my employment.
