About Manishikha Baul

Specialties: I am an independent performing artist, theatre and ensemble director, arts advocate and administrator. Alongside, I teach Odissi, an Indian traditional dance form, the principles of embodied physical movement practice and its role in social community development. I have a career span of 20 years in various sectors across the world. After being in the corporate sector for a decade I moved out to build myself as a performing artist and arts manager in my early 30s. In the last 10 years I have managed arts collectives, advocated for arts as an integral part of social growth, and engaged in education of young adults while being a performer and ensemble director. As a consultant with organizations, collectives, groups and communities I facilitate the process to re-imagine governance and management structures, re-align visions and redefine functional roles through feminist methodologies. My subject matter expertise lies in enabling non-vocal and non-cerebral communication, establishing common ground and assimilation of a diverse group of people beyond their various social barriers of caste, religion, gender, ethnicity, language and class. I also teach as a visiting professor with Ashoka University, Sonepat and volunteer as a co-facilitator with Aagaaz Theatre Trust. I most enjoy working with people, new spaces and ideas towards a common larger socio-creative vision, whether in the arts or other organizations. I believe people have the power to create change and build robust progressive imaginative systems.
