About Manoj Arora

I possess Doctorate from Swansea University UK and postdoctoral fellowship in a NASA sponsored project in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department, Syracuse University, USA. I was a faculty in Civil Engineering at IIT Roorkee from 1988-2018. During, July 2013 – Oct 2018, I was on lien to lead Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, as the Director (Vice Chancellor position). I worked as Vice Chancellor of BML Munjal University from Nov 2018 – Sept 2022, and SRM University AP from Sept 2022 - Sept 2025.I have more than 37 years of teaching, research and academic administration experience. This includes teaching, establishing new Schools, Centres and Laboratories, executing sponsored research and national & international consultancy projects, research guidance, institute building and administration.My significant academic outcomes in numbers are: initiation and execution of 42 sponsored research and consultancy projects with funding of over INR 90 million, establishment of a Centre and a Research Chair with an endowment of INR 125 million, publication of 2 books and 19 book chapters, more than 250 research papers in highly cited International and National Journals and Conferences, several invited talks and keynote addresses. I have guided 26 Ph.D. theses (1 ongoing) and 56 Masters’ Dissertations. My current Google Scholar record is Citations: 9429, h-index: 43 and i10-index: 89.I am a recipient of Bhaskar Award in 2023 from the Indian Society of Remote, the Outstanding Teacher Award twice at IIT Roorkee (2006 and 2010), the Commonwealth Scholarship Award, DST Young Scientist Award and AICTE Young Teacher Career Award. I am a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, Fellow of Institution of Engineers, and an active member of many professional societies. I have served at various administrative positions at IIT Roorkee, viz, Dean of Academic Studies, Chairman of GATE/JAM. I have also been on several committees of IITs, DRDO, UPSC, CSIR, UGC, AICTE, MEITY, DST. Current engagements are; member,PG Board for Postgraduate and Research Education, AICTE, and Member, Governing Council of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). I have also chaired several NBA, AICTE and UGC visiting teams.Having worked in IIT system, a Deemed University and two State Govt. Private Universities and with sound academic, research and administrative experience, and a vigor to leverage my skillset, I believe that I can surely continue to guide academic institutions towards excellence.
