Manoj Chothe is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of 2010 batch borne on Jharkhand cadre. He has worked in various capacities in different districts of Jharkhand during last 13 years.He is one of the very few IPS officers in India who has received the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) conferred by the President of India, during the training period itself.He started his career as an IPS officer from Palamu district of Jharkhand. He served as ASP, Chandil in Seraikela district before promoted as SP City, Ranchi - the capital of Jharkhand. He then served as SP Railways in Dhanbad for a brief period of time and then worked as SP Lohardaga.He also served as SP Traffic in Ranchi where he started many public oriented initiatives like 'Raahgiri','Night Ride' and 'Traffic updates on FM radio' among others.He worked as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Dhanbad for about 2.5 years. During his tenure as SSP Dhanbad, he was instrumental in solving many important & high profile cases involving numerous influential people.He worked as SP CID for about 1.5 years before serving as Aide-de-camp (ADC) to the then Governor of Jharkhand Smt. Droupadi Murmu (Now the President of India) from June 2020 for about 1.2 years.He worked as Superintendent of Police of Hazaribagh district from 7th August 2021 till he got promoted as DIG (Deputy Inspector General of Police) in 2024. He had one the most successful tenures as SP Hazaribagh where he handled communally hyper-sensitive Hazaribagh district with utmost professionalism and dedication.He then worked as DIG Kolhan Range, Chaibasa from March 2024 till May 2025. During this tenure, he ensured smooth and incident-free elections to Loksabha and Vidhan Sabha in 2024 in one of the most Naxal affected districts of country.Currently he is posted as DIG Special Branch in Ranchi from 29th May 2025.Manoj Chothe is an Agricultural Engineer by education and has done masters in Police Management. He has also completed Diploma in Mass Communication and Journalism. He has written many articles in Marathi and English dailies like Lokmat, Loksatta and The Hindu.
