About Manuela Basso

I have received both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Neuroscience in Italy where I mostly worked on Proteomics and Neurodegeneration. Since I joined the Ratan Lab at the Burke-Cornell Medical Research Institute in White Plains, I've been involved in several projects voted to identify therapeutic agents able to halt degeneration and engage the adaptive gene response in neurons. We have recently identified a novel negative modulator of the adaptive response, Transglutaminase 2, able to repress the transcription of specific genes important in mitochondrial adaptation. Since last November I am Assistant Professor at CIBIO, University of Trento actively working to create my own independent group.
