About Manuela Garza

I have been working within and with civil society organizations at the national and international levels since 2002. For over ten years I was an activist for public budget transparency and accountability focusing on advocating for fair, equitable and transparent public budgets and their link to human rights. Within the universe of public policy and public budget accountability my primary passion has been on sexual and reproductive rights and maternal health. My professional path has been mostly global and within civil society organizations and movements. Ten years ago I founded Colectivo Meta (COMETA), a private consultancy firm working internationally to support the resilience of civil society organizations, networks and movements and the private philanthropic sector that supports them. In COMETA I’ve placed my energy on supporting a wide array of initiatives and institutions on strategic thinking, financial resilience, institutional development and strengthening, high level facilitation, horizontal learning and evaluation. I’ve worked closely with organizations in francophone Africa, Central America, and parts of Asia. I became a feminist in my late twenties and I am committed to supporting the feminist agenda and the plight for equality and inclusion. I’m a strong believer of the power of south-based solutions from south-based practitioners and am committed to anti-colonialism, anti-ableism, anti-racism and a feminist approach to the work I do and the work COMETA does. I’m also a single mom of a seven year old girl.
