About Mara Orio

I'm a licensed attorney in Italy with a strong focus on privacy, data protection, and commercial law. Currently, I serve as Legal Counsel at a fast-growing fintech company, where I lead on all matters related to privacy and contracts. In my privacy role, I own the end-to-end GDPR compliance framework and act as the go-to legal advisor for all data-related initiatives. From drafting internal policies and conducting DPIAs/LIAs to shaping privacy-by-design strategies for new products, I provide both strategic oversight and hands-on legal support. I partner with product, tech, marketing, and compliance teams to enable data-driven innovation while mitigating regulatory and reputational risks. On the commercial side, I manage the lifecycle of a broad range of contracts — from day-to-day operations to high-stakes partnerships — including drafting, negotiation, and risk assessment. I work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure that legal input is embedded early in the decision-making process. I bring a pragmatic, business-aligned approach to legal work, with a deep understanding of how privacy and contracts intersect in tech-driven environments.
