About Mara Serrapede

My name is Mara Serrapede and I am a 3rd year PhD student in Electrochemistry at the University of Southampton, UK. During my Ph.D, I have worked in a team supervised by Dr. G. Denuault. The group specialises in the theory and applications of ultramicroelectrodes and in scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM). My PhD research project,"An electrochemical approach to study carbonation of novel lime based materials", involved the development and characterisation of nanostructured pH microelectrodes to record pH changes in situ with the SECM. During the last 3 years, I have worked with project collaborators experts in the engineering of carbonation and electrochemistry fields through temporary research stays at the University of the Bath.Also, I have intensive training and expertise in the set-up and operation of different equipment, performing experiments, data analysis, writing reports, presenting and delivering seminars (inter)nationally. I gave two talks and two poster presentations in local meetings (University of Southampton) and at international conferences. In the 63rd annual meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry in Prague my poster presentation was awarded the 'Best poster prize' by the Electroanalytical chemistry division. I presented an invited lecture at the 7th International workshop on SECM, Israel, 2013. After my Master studies, I was awarded the regional prize 'Optime' from the Confindustria, an organization representing Italian manufacturing and services companies, for both my marks and Master project.During my PhD I have had several opportunities to demonstrate my leadership and project management skills in particular when I successfully supervised two MChem project students. I also demonstrated her my teaching skills when demonstrating for the Southampton Electrochemistry Summer School twice in Southampton and once in Xiamen (China).
