About Marc Durham

A recent graduate of York University’s Honours Disaster and Emergency Management program, I have a genuine passion for helping others and making a meaningful impact in public service. My journey has been incredibly rewarding—from volunteering in search and rescue with the Ontario Volunteer Emergency Response Team (OVERT), to supporting frontline operations in the emergency department at Southlake Regional Health Centre, and most recently, contributing to municipal emergency preparedness as a Research Support Officer Intern with the City of Brampton. At Brampton, I helped oversee the city’s 2025 Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), contributed to emergency preparedness education events across the city, and collaborated with IT and radio teams to modernize EOC communication systems and update the Emergency Management Office’s website. Through these diverse experiences, I’ve gained valuable skills in navigation, first aid, community outreach, risk assessment, and crisis communications. Working alongside emergency professionals has shown me the importance of collaboration, clear communication, and compassion during a crisis. I enjoy working with others, public speaking, and solving challenges under pressure. Whether I’m leading shifts in customer service roles or contributing to emergency management initiatives, I’m always eager to learn, lead, and serve. I’m now excited to expand my real-world experience and explore new opportunities to contribute to emergency management, public safety, or disaster response.
