About Marc Goffart

Marc Goffart graduated in 1989 in Germanic Languages and Literature (English and Dutch) and in Teacher Training at the University of Ghent (Belgium). Following an Erasmus traineeship in Teacher Training at the Free University of Amsterdam (NL, Jan-March 1990), I started my professional career at the International Relations Office of the University of Ghent. This launched me in the management of European cooperation, and I have been working at the European Commission since 1995, primarily in the research, social inclusion and education environments. Practicing mobility also in my professional life, I have carried out assignments in several DGs- in DG Information Society (1995-2003) I worked on cooperation with Central & Eastern Europe [INCO-Copernicus, 1995-1998] and coordination of the Information Society Technologies programme DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities (2003-06), monitoring the social dimension of the knowledge society (ESDIS working group)- I became scientific officer at DG Research (2006-14), monitoring socio-economic research projects [FP6 & FP7, SSH] on social themes such as Employment, Skills & Lifelong Learning; Youth, Families and Social Inclusion ( & Innovation)- In 2015 I joined the Higher Education policy team of DG Education & Culture, where I monitored the implementation of the Erasmus+ Master Loan Scheme and the preparation of the Social Investment & Skills window under the InvestEU initiative- Since 2020 I have coordinated the European Graduate Tracking Initiative as well as the preparation and implementation of the European Higher Education Sector Observatory.
