About Marc Maritz

Leadership: As a sophomore in high school, I helped found the Student Safety Commission at Hinsdale Central High School in response to the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. I convinced school and district administrators to higher more security guards and social workers. I also persuaded them into creating a mandatory meeting between each student and their social worker. I strive to have a positive impact on my community through civic leadership and social justice initiatives. Innovation: As a student. I was able to conduct a semester long research study on the effect of screen size on associative memory. I was the first person to successfully show that there is a statistically significant link between the two and was able to publish research that may help with testing for Alzheimer’s. I enjoy being innovative in my projects in a way that can improve current processes because it gives substance to my work. Service: As an officer at Citizen Club at my high school, I ran the Clubs Who Care Service Project, which provides gifts and funding for an underprivileged family during the Holidays, for three consecutive years. I successfully raised over five hundred dollars each year for the family we supported and raised enough money each year to be in the top five fundraising clubs for this initiative, despite being in a club of only twenty-five people. I plan to continue my service while I am at Indiana University as service allows me to create a positive impact on my community.
