Background
About Marc Reyes
After a decade of working in higher education, as a Supplemental Instruction Leader, course grader, writing tutor, teaching assistant, research assistant, and lastly as an instructor of record, I have moved into a new role but will continue working with students: scholarship and fellowship advisor. In May 2022, I joined Georgia State University's Honors College and now work in the College's Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships. In this role, I review and help award internal Honors College scholarships, recruit and advise students pursuing competitive external awards, and work to improve student research skills. I also am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History at the University of Connecticut. I am working to complete my doctoral dissertation, a history of India's atomic energy program and its transformation into a full-fledged weapons program. My research interests include foreign relations history, political and cultural studies, history of technology, and South Asian studies. The projects I have completed have focused on the Cold War diplomatic history between the United States and India. My scholarship contributes to the literature on the state-building of postcolonial India and the United States' attempts to influence such developments. Besides my work as an advisor and student, I also am a co-founder and editor for Contingent Magazine, a history-focused publication aimed at the public. Contingent has been in operation since 2019 and the magazine continues to publish 4-6 pieces a month covering all types of history, from a diverse range of scholars. In addition to being an editor at the magazine, I also serve on the organization's board and perform Treasurer duties. On top of my training as a writer and educator, I also am interested in public history, digital humanities, and developing interdisciplinary courses, for both digital and analog classrooms. I would be delighted to talk further about my current projects, research interests as well as my graduate experience, so please get in touch. You can reach me at mreyes@gsu.edu or ma.reyes84@gmail.com.
