About Marc Serra

Entrepreneur with a medical and scientific neurosciences research background, a social conscience and always learning. Fan of the lean KISS method (Keep It Simple and Smart). I started my entrepreneurial career creating in Berkeley back in 1988 a pioneer nanotechnology startup. We developed a very innovative scanning tunneling microscope (STM). Came back to Barcelona and joined the management team of Lotus (now IBM) in Spain. We achieved an awesome 85% market share. I later launched Zeta Multimedia in an emerging space - interactive educational multimedia content. We became the market leaders in Spain and Latam. In we founded Bonacuista BGS. Of the several online stores we managed, Acuista.com was our main ecommerce operating in Spain, Italy and Portugal. We were rated, over a 10 year span, the #1 online store in Spain topping Amazon, El Corte Ingles, Carrefour, FNAC and Redcoon. Another company we founded, BGS, was a leading field and trade marketing agency with major CE and IT customers. In 2014 we launched a crowdsourced retail intelligence startup in Spain and Portugal. We contribute to retail execution excellence by auditing POS retail to help our FMCG / CPG customers obtain shopper insights, improve category management, obtain shelf share, distribution and assortment KPI data of their product lines. Now also interested in social selling consulting: check out BGlobal.cat In hindsight, I was part of a bunch that pioneered nanotechnology back in the 80's, desktop software in the early 90's, educational multimedia in the mid 90's, ecommerce in the early crowdsourcing and social selling in the past years and lately in blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Startup investor and advisor. Business angel. I strongly believe in paying back to the community. I do this through work in startup mentorships where I bring my experience. I like to remind myself to "stay hungry, stay foolish,"(Jobs) and that "only the paranoid survive"(Grove).
