About Marc Weber

Data Scientist with a proven track record of over 15 years in research, including 2 years in the biotech industry. My expertise lies in bioinformatics, computational modeling, and in-depth analysis of biological data. My educational background in Physics (M.Sc.), Biophysics (Ph.D.), and Computational Biology (postdoc) has equipped me with a solid foundation to tackle complex challenges in the field. I am passionate about leveraging data-driven insights to advance scientific knowledge and make a positive impact on society. At Flomics, I spearhead the development of bioinformatics pipelines and employ data analysis and machine learning techniques to harness the potential of cell-free RNA biomarkers in liquid biopsy for early cancer detection. Additionally, I lead the development and implementation of an in-house database (LIMS) for tracking all sample-related information along our pipeline, from laboratory inventory to bioinformatics analysis results. My past research focused on Systems Biology approaches applied to both minimal-genome bacterial organisms and human cancer genomics. I have extensive experience in developing mathematical models and applying machine learning methods to analyze and integrate diverse omics data, including bulk RNA-seq, ribo-seq, proteomics, DNA-seq from plasmid libraries, SILAC proteomics, and genomic data. Through close collaboration with wet-lab biologists, I have gained valuable insights into experimental data generation. I have also consistently developed bioinformatics pipelines and created data visualizations in both cloud (AWS) and HPC environments. I thrive in interdisciplinary environments and enjoy working alongside scientists and non-scientists to solve challenging problems and drive innovation.
