About Marcel Breedeveld

In the early days of my professional career, I gained experiences in different fields of expertise amongst which the field of nematology and soil health, and molecular techniques and biotechnology. In 2006, my extensive R&D experience in horticulture, entomology and crop protection brought me back to Syngenta, where I focused on product development for flower bulbs and ornamental crops. In my early years at Syngenta, I successfully established and built the regional development department and trialing team, overseeing business responsibilities across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for Ornamentals, Amateur, Turf and Landscape, and Professional Pest Management and Vector Control. Our trialing team achieved a Good Experimental Practice (GEP) recognition from the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality, acknowledging our high standards and quality of trialing. In recent years, I have been responsible for leading teams and executing projects in the EU and Sub-Saharan Africa mainly. Scope of this work has been primarily focused on the Product Biology aspects of our projects in Ornamentals, Turf and Landscape, Professional Pest Management and Vector Control. During my career I have gained extensive intercultural skills travelling and working in Latin America, North America, and Sub-Saharan Africa. As a team leader, I have a democratic leadership style that values individual strengths, and diversity in different cultures, skills and personalities. My passion for the horticultural industry, especially ornamentals, continues to drive my passion and commitment.
