About Marcella Chiromo

Most of my work has been in the youth development field in different settings. Combining the fields of psychology and international development have always been an interest for me because of my own upbringing. People behave in a certain way for a reason and my goal is to understand what those reasons are to better provide assistance. Vulnerable populations such as people from different cultures/countries, children and youth are my areas of interest. I am passionate about working with African youth and families because of my own background. I am currently in a PhD program planning to research the acculturation process of African youth into the American high schools. I am interested in research projects related to youth, African youth, psychological well being, behavior modification, cross-cultural interactions, cross-cultural psychology, policy development and systemic change for equity related reasons. Career areas that I am interested in are relief work, international development, mental health, psycho-social programs, youth development and refugee and immigrant programs.
