About Marcia Devlin

I am a recognised thought leader in education and equity. My leadership, research, publications, keynote addresses and work over three decades focus across: educational leadership, including women in leadership, high quality teaching, and equity in education. A long-term academic and registered psychologist, I am an experienced, award-winning, senior executive leader across education sectors. I have particular expertise in leading people, strategy, transformation and change, teaching quality, digital education, student outcomes and the student experience - particularly for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. A graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, my governance experience as a non executive director, board member and committee Chair and member has been gained across the academic, public and not for profit sectors and includes Ministerial appointments. Recognised internationally for my research and expertise in education, leadership and equity, I have been invited to give more than 200 keynote/headline addresses in 11 countries. I am currently. CEO of a statutory authority, the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. a Trust (Board) Member of the Queen Victoria Women's Centre. an Honorary Professor of Macquarie University and Adjunct Professor at Victoria University. an appointed Specialist and Accreditation Panel Member of the Hong Kong Council for the Accreditation of Vocational and Academic Qualifications. an elected Lifelong Fellow of the UK-based Society for Research in Higher Education; and. a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Student Success. Recent previous appointments include. non executive director, Board of Melbourne Polytechnic; member, Finance, Audit and Risk Committee; and Chair, Educational Quality Committee. Ministerial appointee to the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA); Member Executive & Audit Committees & Project Control Board for VCE/VCAL delivery 2021; and Chair, Senior Secondary Certification Reform Committee. Universities Australia nominee on the Advisory Board of the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education. Until 2023, serving for 13 years on the Editorial Board of The Australian Journal of Indigenous Education and 11 years on the Editorial Board of the US-based journal Teaching Inquiry. In 2023, I was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to higher education, and to women.
