About Marcio Mares

I am a bi-lingual international teacher, educated and qualified in the UK, with a PGCE from the University of Sunderland and 15 years teaching experience. Most recently, this has comprised two years as an international primary homeroom teacher in Thailand and two years at a state primary school in Hong Kong. Teaching across the curriculum is my passion and I bring a great deal of enthusiasm and experience to the classroom to create a safe and nurturing environment that encourages my students to take the necessary academic risks to reach their potential. I thrive working in diverse, international, schools with students of mixed cultural and educational backgrounds to identify and reach common goals while celebrating their individual abilities and contributions. Teaching the Cambridge Curriculum (PBIS), Project Based Learning (KPIS), and the Hong Kong national curriculum, my PGCE career has built on two CELTA years - when I taught English at kindergartens, language centres, and a secondary school in Vietnam and Hong Kong - and seven years as a qualified secondary school teacher in Brazil. I am particularly strong in classroom management and lesson planning across the full range of primary school subjects and I have also taken a very active role in extra-curricular activities including drama, cooking, and phonics and parent-student activities. I am now permanently living with my family in Lisbon.
